Valdez, Alaskas
Little Switzerland
The view in Valdez is tremendous. Travel
in every direction, the mountains rise into the air, frosted in white, sparkling green in
the bright Alaskan summer. Little wonder they call Valdez Alaskas little
Switzerland.

Valdez is a modest town of about 4,000
persons, most of whom live here all year long. The primary employer is Alyeska, the
pipeline terminal across the port from Valdez. Many commercial fishermen also call Valdez
home, as fishing in Prince William Sound is a major Alaska industry. There are two fish
canneries in Valdez and several off shore processors as well.

The entire town was relocated in
1964 due to an earthquake. The remains of Old Valdez, washed over with a tidal
wave, are still visible. The new Valdez is located several miles away, built on former farmland.
A new prosperous community with the advent of the oil pipeline, Valdez has all of the
amenities that travelers are seeking. Harbor Reservations is a full travel agency that will assist you in your
vacation visit.
